Uncommon Universes Press: Now Seeking Manuscript Queries

Updated November 1st 2019: They have temporarily closed to submissions. They are going through a merger.

Uncommon Universes Press is a small press that publishes science fiction and fantasy books for young adult and adult readers. The company was founded in 2017 and they have published a total of 13 books at the time of this review, October 2019

Among those books are a number of series. The covers of the books they publish is generally excellent, although there are a few missteps. The company website is easy to navigate and interact with. It’s easy to buy books and the blurbs are generally professional.

I don’t love the overall look of the website or the logo, which feel unprofessional and a little bit dated to me, but the website is geared towards readers, not writers. I also like how upfront they are about who their publishing team is. The team is young, and largely inexperienced.

They don’t appear to have distribution, but they do have a social media manager and a marketing media manager. At no point do they state religious affiliations, but around half of the bios indicate otherwise.

They are open to previously self published work, which is rare.

Part of the problem with the press is that a number of their books have been written by or contributed to by the editorial team. This is a form of self publishing and you should take that fact into consideration before submitting to them.
