These magazines pay for fiction, nonfiction, and poetry. They’re a mix of literary and genre magazines.
PodCastle
is a fantasy podcast and online magazine from the Escape Artists suite of magazines. They want all the sub-genres of fantasy, from magical realism to urban fantasy to slipstream to high fantasy. “Above all, we’re looking for stories that are fun to listen to. … We’d particularly like to see more stories set outside America, and stories that feature characters who represent a range of backgrounds and ethnicities.” They accept translations too, and reprints.Deadline: 31 March 2025

— And, Heroic Fantasy Quarterly is open too – they are “dedicated to publishing heroic fantasy — in both prose and poetry. We are unrepentant in our goal of elevating unapologetic sword and sorcery to a rightful high place.” And, Tolkienesque (as in really long) poetry will most likely be treated — and paid — like fiction. “Similarly, prose pieces of fewer than 1,000 words will be paid at poetry’s standard rate of $25.” They pay $25-100 for fiction of up to 10,000 words, $12.5-25 for poetry. The Ex-Puritan
This Canadian magazine publishes fiction, nonfiction, experimental/hybrid work, interviews, reviews, poetry, and poetry in translation. They read submissions throughout the year, with cut-off dates for issues, and accept a limited number of fee-free submissions every month.
Deadline: 1 April 2025, or until filled, for the next issue; reads year-round
Length: 1,000-10,000 words for fiction, up to 4 poems; various for non-fiction (see guidelines)
Pay: CAD150 for fiction; CAD50 per poem (capped at CAD100); CAD200 per essay; CAD100 per interview or review; CAD50+ per experimental or hybrid work, at an increasing scale depending on the nature of the piece

They read throughout the year, with cut-off dates for issues. They pay $120, and the deadline is 31 March 2025 for the Summer issue; details here and here.
— And Brick Magazine, a Canadian magazine which accepts creative nonfiction, will open for submissions via Submittable on 1st April, and close for fee-free submissions when their cap is reached. They tend toward pieces of 1,000-5,000 words, and pay $65-720. Details here.)
West Branch
They accept fiction, creative nonfiction, poetry, and translation. West Branch is affiliated with Bucknell University.

Poetry Wales
They accept poetry and poetry-related reviews and articles. They’re reading submissions for issue 61.2 / Winter 2025. “For the Winter 2025 issue, Poetry Wales is open to all poems on all themes, without a specific slant. We are interested in work in all poetic forms, from poets who we have worked with before and from poets who are new to us.” And, “while we always try to have a Welsh focus and amplify Welsh voices, we encourage work from writers all over the world”. They also say, “You consider sending up to four poems. It doesn’t hurt to think about how poems in your submission may complement each other if they are published together, though we will of course publish poems which are excellent and stand alone”.

The Threepenny Review
This respected quarterly journal accepts fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and submissions for their ‘Table Talk’ column.
