Laurel: Now Seeking Submissions

A brand-new online journal based in South Africa, Laurel is seeking powerful poetry, fiction, nonfiction, and artwork. Authentic, brave, and honest, the literature featured in Laurel explores the full face of the human condition. They publish skillfully crafted writing in which authors express truth without pretense.

Laurel often pairs writing with original visual artwork, creating a dialogue the deepens both. They publish both emerging and established authors and artists of all backgrounds.

Laurel is published twice a year online as a beautifully designed, downloadable PDF. You can read their inaugural issue to get a sense of their style. They accept submissions year-round, and right now they’re seeking submissions for their second edition.

Poets may submit up to five poems. Authors of fiction and nonfiction may submit up to three pieces, 4,000 words or fewer. Authors may format manuscripts in any style, but Laurel will reject screenshots without consideration. They respond to submissions in a timely manner, usually within a month.

Laurel accepts submissions online, not via email or by post. They do not accept previously published work.
