Juke Joint: Now Seeking Submissions

A gathering place for unconventional poetry, Juke Joint lives up to its namesake. Like the juke joints of the South—structures marking the margins of society, gathering sharecroppers and plantation owners after working hours—Juke Joint magazine celebrates the spirit of rebellion. They’re looking for Southern and non-Southern voices: lyrical, narrative, found, erased, and unclassified. To get a sense of their style, you can read past issues online.

Juke Joint is published four times a year online, in February, May, August, and November. Right now, they’re accepting submissions through August 15th. They aim to respond to all submissions within two months.

Poets may submit up to four poems or visual pieces. They like weird poetry, but they consider traditional work too. All submissions should include a brief, creative bio—the more interesting the better. They’re not concerned with formalities.

Juke Joint accepts submissions via email, not online or by post. They accept simultaneous submissions but ask that authors immediately withdraw work published elsewhere. They do not accept previously published work.

If you would like to learn more or submit to Juke Joint, please visit their website here.
