Four Lines: Now Seeking Submissions

Amid modern information overload, Four Lines asks: “Can you reveal the deeper meaning, true essence, or soul of something in four lines?” They’re looking for authors who can simply—and succinctly—say the truth.

Why four lines? “Think of the four seasons, four cardinal directions, four elements, four humours, four colours of the medicine wheel,” writes the editor. Four is an important number.

Four Lines is just starting out, but their thoughtfully designed online platform promises to provide a beautiful home for well-crafted micro poems. They plan to publish new four-line micros weekly on social media and monthly on their website.

Four Lines is always looking for micro poems on any subject, concrete or abstract. In addition to that, they also hold a monthly contest in which they ask authors to respond to a one-word prompt. They choose four winning micro poems from the contest submissions each month to publish on their website. They also plan to collect the winning entries into an eBook each year.

As you know, Four Lines only accepts four-line poems. There’s no maximum line length, but each line of poetry must be at least one word. Four Lines accepts submissions online, but not via email or by post.

Four Lines also accepts micro sketches, tiny drawings of just four lines.

To learn more about writing four line poems, you can read resources complied by the editor here.

If you’d like to learn more about Four Lines or if you want to submit, please visit their website here.
