This small press publishes literary fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and work in translation, at the rate of about one to two books per year. They state: “Our mission is to be a home for rigorous, weird, beautiful books—and their readers. These books are imperiled by the stratification and commercialization of publishing. Against the grain of the industry and the times, we aim to support the careers of idiosyncratic and alluring writers whose voices might otherwise be lost.”
They published their first book in 2023, and they are still new at this. Their masthead is here. The best way to get a feel for if they would be a good potential fit is to spend time with the books they have published so far. The books they’ve published so far make a clear and distinct perspective and convey a lot about the taste of the editors in a helpful way. Please do not submit to them unless you think your work would fit well with their current fit.
I do not know if they have a distributor. The editors did an interview with LitHub that is an interesting read, that you can read here. I did think it was a little worrying that they’d already found all three books they’ve published so far, at the point that they launched, even if the publication of those books were staggered over two years. They also run courses and are active on social media.
They don’t have formal submission guidelines but on their contact page they say “Queries are welcome. We will respond if interested.”
