Fish Barrel Review: Now Seeking Submissions

Fish Barrel Review is an online publisher of fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and visual art. They showcase a broad range of writing, from traditional to experimental. In general, they’re looking for memorable, emotionally resonant pieces: “We want work that challenges and inspires. We want work with empathy. We want work with urgency, work the world needs to see.” You can read Fish Barrel Review online to get a sense of what they like.

Fish Barrel Review was established in 2020, and since then they’ve published nine issues, each with writing from around fourteen to eighteen contributors. All past issues are available to read in their online archive.

Now through July 1, Fish Barrel Review is open to submissions for their tenth issue. Poets may submit up to six poems, two pages or fewer each. Authors of fiction and nonfiction may submit up to two pieces, 3,000 words or fewer each. Authors with work that doesn’t fit into one of these categories are invited reach out to the editors to ask about submitting. Submitting authors can expect a response in early August.

Fish Barrel Review also accepts visual art, and each issue contains around two to four images of original artwork. Artists may submit up to six works.

Fish Barrel Review accepts submissions online using Google Forms, not via email or by post. They accept simultaneous submissions but ask that authors withdraw writing published elsewhere. They do not accept previously published writing; however, they do accept writing that has placed in contests.

Fish Barrel Review only accepts submissions that follow the guidelines they’ve posted online. Please read these guidelines in full before submitting.
