Salt Hill Literary Journal: Now Accepting Submissions

Salt Hill is a literary journal that is associated with the graduate program at Syracuse University. They publish two print issues a year. They are a respected and established literary journal that has published many famous poets and writers including Edwidge Danticat, Denise Duhamel, Lucia Perillo, Bob Hicok, and Charles Simic.

They use the submission manager Submittable, and all submissions must be made through it. They are looking for poems, short stories, non-fiction, and visual art.

Please submit no more than 5 poems at a time. Short stories must be no longer than 30 pages. If you are interested in submitting a longer piece, you must query via email first.

They are interested in non-fiction that plays with genre boundaries, and uses fictional and poetic techniques to tell a story that is still true. The length is up to you. It can be one paragraph long, or 30 pages (no more).

It is easy to get a good feeling of the visual art that appeals to them by visiting their website and looking at the covers of past issues.

They do not publish previously published work but they are open to simultaneous submissions as long as they are notified when your work is accepted elsewhere. Retractions should be made directly with the genre editor through email.
