Parlyaree Press: Accepting Manuscript Queries

Parlyaree Press was established in 2023 in Atlanta, Georgia. They are focused on publishing work that “expands, reveals, and interrogates the mainstream.” They want their books to “exist in the liminal space between what was and what will be.”

They explain their name by sharing: “The cant of circus performers, freaks, queers, and thespians, Parlyaree is the invented language required to tell the stories of those othered, to keep their secrets, to keep them safe”. Their logo also has a circus theme to it.

In terms of prose they publish literary fiction (often with a side of fantasy and/or magic), experimental writing, and LGBTQIA+ stories, as well as memoir, narrative-nonfiction, and educational works. In terms of poetry they want chapbook-length (or longer!) poetry collections.

You can see what they have published so far by going here and scrolling down. They also have a Bookshop.org shop which you can see here, but includes work they published as well as work they curated.

It’s pretty easy to see what they are interested in, and what they aren’t. Any additional questions you have about that will likely be answered by the FAQ section here. I will stress that they mention reaching out if you haven’t heard from them in six weeks in the FAQ section, and after two months in the submission section. I would wait the full two months (or even longer), before querying.

They are only open to previously unpublished manuscripts.

All submissions must be made via email and all work must be in the body of the text. Attachments will not be opened.
