Primera is a digital-first imprint of Oliver Heber Books. Oliver Herber Books was founded by the author Tanya Anne Crosby, and you can learn more about the publisher as a whole here. They are based in Michigan. In 2023 they started Primera, which is open to agented and direct submissions from authors.
It was hard for me to get a feel for what Primera publishes versus what Oliver Heber books publishes because of how their catalog works. It doesn’t seem to make a distinction between which imprint publishes a book. But it’s still very much worth your time to review what they’ve recently published here. Most of the books published in the past year have under 50 reviews on Amazon but over 10. Some are reprints, and some are new.
The focus on the website is very much on recruiting readers over writers, which is a good sign.
These are the genres they are currently accepting submissions for:
Historical mysteries
Select historical romance
Dark, sexy contemporary romance, including Mafia
New adult and sports romance
Romantic fantasy, including dark/horror, spicy, and cozy
Select romantic suspense
They are currently particularly interested in stories with series potential, strong and savvy heroes and heroines, detective stories particularly those featuring female sleuths, as well as own-voices work and stories with diversity.
They are not interested in children’s books, poetry, biography/autobiography, comics, manga, cookbooks, DIY, self-help, strictly literary works, or short stories. Please do not submit this work to them.
Different editors have different preferences and you need to pitch them directly. You can learn more about the editors and their preferences here by clicking on the box that says, “Do you have specific submission calls?”. You can also submit to their general submissions address, which is linked to via a purple box at the bottom of the page.
They do not allow parietal or simultaneous submissions.
They ask that you submit a submission letter and complete manuscript, as well as a synopsis of your book and a bio with links to your website and social media. They specifically say that a “robust online presence and a willingness to promote and market your work go a long way.”
They say they offer a “true 50% royalty, paid monthly”.
