Cabbage Patch is a new online journal of poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, fragments, photos, images, and “strange hybrid things.”
“Think of this as a literary attic full of strange stuff.” They’re looking for emotionally resonant writing, and they “believe in warmth over prestige.” They love publishing new authors, and they welcome reprints.
Cabbage Patch launched earlier this year in June, and since then they’ve published two monthly issues each featuring writing from five to six contributors. You can read the journal online to get a sense of what they publish.
Their website also includes a section of essays—”reflections, craft notes, internet essays, personal strange nonfiction, and whatever else insists on being prose”—and a “sanctuary”—an online meeting room for human connection and nonjudgemental peer support. Poets may submit up to five poems. Authors of prose—fiction and nonfiction—may submit pieces up to 5,000 words. They do occasionally accept longer pieces: “If it’s longer and it needs to be, tell us.” Cabbage Patch also accepts hybrid writing, fragments, and “strange things” in any format.
Cabbage Patch accepts submissions via email, not online or by post. They accept simultaneous submissions, and they welcome reprints. When submitting reprints, authors should note where the writing was previously published. Cabbage Patch only accepts submissions from writers 20 and older.

Bio: Ella Peary is the pen name of an internationally published author and editor. After earning a Master of Fine Arts degree in poetry from Sarah Lawrence College, she lived as a monastic for five years. She now lives as a lay monastic, and teaches poetry, flash fiction, and literary publishing at the Authors Publish Writers Workshop. Her writing has been published in Room, The Apple Valley Review, Fourteen Hills, and elsewhere. And a number of full-length manuscripts she’s edited have received major international awards, including The Best Graphic Novel of the Year (Comics Finlandia), The Montaigne Medal, and The National Indie Excellence Awards. She’s also a long-time literary journal reviewer and editor at Authors Publish Magazine.
