Free Talk:
Providing Room for the Reader — Striking the Balance of Mystery and Clarity

You're invited to a free talk with author, poet, and writing instructor Lauren Oertel.

In both poetry and prose, it can be a challenge to decide how much information is too much for readers, and also when withholding can lead to confusion.

Effective writing often creates a partnership where the writer provides enough to engage the reader, who can then use their imagination to complete the experience.

This lecture will include examples of short prose and poetry to analyze how each piece creates different amounts and types of openings for a meaningful reading experience. We will discuss how the writers used mystery, clarity, imagery, precision, emotional resonance, and other craft decisions.

Expect to leave the workshop with a new way to evaluate your  work, and techniques to achieve your intended impact.

By signing up, we will also let you know about future lectures, workshops, and opportunities from The Writer's Workshop at Authors Publish.
