Visitant is an online literary magazine seeking flash fiction, serialized fiction, nonfiction essays, multimedia essays, poetry, art, and interviews. Born from the collaborative efforts of the online writers group, PDXX Collective, Visitant hopes to cultivate a homestead for the unexpected visitors of the creative process: the strangers that appear on the page when authors experiment. They’re looking for ghosts and madmen, foreign birds and strange animals. They’re looking for writing that inquires about the personification of inanimate things; writing that explores the self and the self’s relationship to the environment; writing that examines race, class, gender, sexual orientation, and disability; and writing that considers the self’s relationship to the body and sexuality. They also like multimedia essays, stories that go against the “single story” tradition, and literature that’s been left behind because it’s too [fill in the blank] for other literary journals. Visitant accepts submissions on a rolling basis. Right now, they’re accepting flash fiction, serialized fiction, nonfiction essays, multimedia essays, poetry, art, and interviews. All submissions should be 1,500 words or fewer; however, longer submissions may be published in a serialized format. Visitant accepts submissions via email, but not online or by post. They accept previously published work with acknowledgement of the original publisher, and they allow work appearing in Visitant to be printed elsewhere after publication.
