August Books: Now Accepting Manuscript Submissions

August Books is one of the three main imprints of Canelo, a UK  based press that was established in 2015. Their books are well distributed and you can learn more about the company as a whole here. We have previously reviewed Hera books, which is now an imprint of Canelo. You can read that review here.

According to them the books they publish are:

  • clever but never dry
  • innovative but always accessible
  • forward-looking with ideas that have longevity.

Their main landing page is here, and as you can see there isn’t much listed there yet, because they were just launched in March 2024. So they have yet to have a track record. We don’t review brand new publishers but we are open to brand new imprints of established publishers, and that is what August Books is. Martina O’Sullivan has joined to lead the new division as executive publisher, and she has a lot of industry experience. You can read more about the launch here.

They are currently open to accepting submissions in the following genres:

Fiction
Historical Adventure

Non-Fiction
History
Popular Culture
Popular Science
Health
True Crime

They stress that they are not open to submissions of cookery, illustrated books, poetry, short stories or children’s books, so please do not submit those to them.

They ask that fiction authors submit a one-page synopsis, the whole manuscript and a brief biography via email.

For nonfiction books they ask for a no more than a six-page proposal, plus sample chapter. They go into details about the questions they want the proposal to answer here.
