A well-established online journal of creative nonfiction, poetry, and short stories, Barnstorm is always seeking submissions. Founded in 2009 and produced by the MFA program in Creative Writing at the University of New Hampshire, Barnstorm has been publishing literature in a wide range of forms and styles for almost a decade. They accept submissions from both emerging and established authors of all backgrounds. You can read past issues online to get a sense of their style.
Barnstorm accepts submissions year-round; however, submitting authors should note that they do not read submissions during the summer months. They publish new content online from September through May, and they try to respond to all submissions during that time as promptly as possible.
Authors of creative nonfiction, short stories, and other prose may submit one piece, 7,000 words or fewer. Poets may submit up to three poems. Authors may submit work in multiple genres but should wait for a response before submitting again in the same genre.
Barnstorm accepts submissions online, not via email or by post. They accept simultaneous submissions but ask that authors immediately withdraw work published elsewhere. They do not accept previously published work.
