Blue Earth Review: Accepting Submissions

Blue Earth Review is published by Minnesota State University. They are a print publication and generally have excellent covers. They are highly selective and publish very little of what is submitted to them. They are open to submissions year round which is unusual for a journal published by a university. They publish fiction, creative nonfiction, and poetry.

Previous contributors include Steve Almond, Nicelle Davis, Alex Lemon, Jennifer Whitaker, Kristen N. Arnett, and Charles Baxter. They often share links to previous contributor’s new publications. So if you have been published by them they will continue to spread the word about your work.

Blue Earth Review has been published under this name since 2003. Since 2008 they have been primarily funded by MSU’s bookstore.

I wish there was a way to get a better feel for what they publish. The excerpts section of the site is blank. Although you can always buy a back issue, that can be both costly and time consuming. Their twitter feed does tend to link to poems they like, so that might give a clue.

All submissions are made through the easy to use Submittable system. They do not accept reprints.

53 Literary Journals Seeking Genre Fiction

Most literary journals are interested in literary work, by which they mean, not genre work (although this is changing a little).
