Bright Sky Press: Accepting Submissions

UPDATED MAY 30TH, 2018 – We are advising authors to proceed with caution regarding this press. We have received reports from authors and illustrators with their traditional publishing  arm that have not received payment for extended period of time, and authors who have been offered second print runs with strings attached.

Bright Sky Press is an established publisher of Christian, local (to Texas), and nonfiction books aimed at children, middle grade readers, young adults, and adults. It is important to note that they are not open to unsolicited submissions of adult fiction at this time. They are open to submissions in all other genres that they publish.  The nonfiction books they publish cover a wide range, with a particular focus on cookbooks. To get a good feel for what they publish, visit their website here.

One of the warning signs about Bright Sky Press is that they do have a “sister” self publisher/assisted publishing arm. If you are ever redirected from Bright Sky to this arm, please alert us right away at support@authorspublish.com and we will issue a warning about the press. However, it has become more common for a traditional press to have such a “sister” publication. The “sister” publication is barely mentioned on the website, which is a good sign.

Their website is well organized and most of their covers are well designed. They are focused on recruiting readers not authors, which is always a good sign.

They only consider submissions made via the post. They caution submitters that wait times are generally around six months, but they respond to all submissions. They encourage authors to simultaneously submit.

To learn more, visit their submission guidelines here. They have specific and different guidelines for both fiction and nonfiction submissions, so be careful to follow them closely.

Whereas adult books have genres like science fiction and fantasy, picture books have sub-genres like fairy tale, alphabet, and bedtime books. There is a whole body of…
