Cahava: Now Seeking Submissions

Cahava is a new quarterly journal of fiction, nonfiction, and poetry. They welcome submissions from around the world, and they also publish translations.

Now through April 15, Cahava is seeking submissions for their first issue, scheduled for publication this spring. Although they are open to submissions year-round, they hold deadlines for specific issues.

Authors of prose—fiction and nonfiction—may submit up to 3,000 words. They accept all types of prose including short stories, novel excerpts, flashes, postcard stories, play scripts, creative nonfiction, and personal essays. Poets may submit up to five poems in any style; each poem must be three pages or fewer. Submitting authors can expect a response within six weeks.

Cahava pays authors published in the journal: authors of prose receive $0.05 per word, and poets receive $10 or $0.05 per word, whichever is higher.

Cahava is also holding a short story contest. The contest is free to enter, and the winner will receive $500 (CAD). Submissions must be 3,000 words or fewer, and the deadline to submit is April 15. All contest submissions will also be considered for publication in the journal.

Cahava accepts submissions online using an online form, not via email or by post. They accept simultaneous submissions but ask that authors to withdraw writing published elsewhere. They do not accept previously published work, including self-published writing. And they do not accept writing assisted or generated by AI.

Cahava only accepts submissions that follow the guidelines they’ve posted online. Please read these guidelines in full before submitting.
