Cheat River Review: Now Seeking Submissions

This thoughtfully designed online journal edited by West Virginia University graduate students publishes flash fiction, poetry, micro poetry, longform nonfiction, and flash nonfiction.

Founded in 2013, Cheat River Review is a well-established journal featuring both emerging and established writers. Each year, they nominate authors for the Pushcart Prize, Best of the Net, and other major literary awards. You can get a sense of their style by reading past issues online.

Cheat River Review is published twice a year online, in the fall and spring. They’ve published thirteen issues, each showcasing the work of about ten authors and artists.

They are open to submissions two times a year. They read submissions from August 21st through October 2nd for their fall edition. And, they read submissions from January 15th through April 1st for their spring issue. Poets may submit up to three poems or up to five pages of poetry. Cheat River Review also accepts micro poetry. Authors of flash fiction may submit one flash, 1,000 words or fewer. Authors of nonfiction may submit one essay, 4,500 words or fewer, or up to three nonfiction flashes, 500 words or fewer each. All submissions should include a brief third-person bio. And, authors should wait to hear back from Cheat River Review before submitting again.

Cheat River Review accepts submissions online, not via email or by post. They accept simultaneous submissions but ask that authors specify which pieces have been sent elsewhere. They do not consider previously published work, and authors sending simultaneous submissions should withdraw writing accepted at other journals.
