UPDATED July 30th, they have just adjusted their guidelines to only allow submissions by British writers. This adjustment was made after our review was sent out. We apologize for the inconvenience.
Claret Press is a UK-based publisher of politics, issues, and place in the form of creative nonfiction, and fiction. They were founded in 2015. They have distribution within the UK. A number of their books have been turned into audio books and most recently a book they have published, Black Tea by Stephen Morris, has been shortlisted for a Royal Literary Society award.
They are still a small press, and their distribution is through the Independent Publishers Guild. I very much admire their covers, which are very appealing.
Genres they are currently open to include the following:
20th century historical: untold moments and stories from pivotal points in modern history; biographies and turbulent memoirs set in fraught locations; issue-led romances and narratives
action: political thrillers, suspense, mysteries and adventures
comedy: escapist fun with a political edge
Even though they are UK-based, the political books they publish are not limited to UK politics.
They are not interested in books that have been previously self-published. I highly encourage you to spend some time with their catalogue to get a good feel for what they do publish.
They ask that you send a cover letter and twenty five pages when submitting to them. Please only submit if you feel like your book is a good fit for them.
