Cold Creek Review: Now Seeking Submissions

Cold Creek Review is an online journal of poetry, fiction, nonfiction, and artwork that aims to submerge readers in the deep, icy waters of unsettling emotion. They hope to uncover the aesthetics of suffering, the beauty within pain. Each submission is reviewed individually by an editorial staff who discusses the work as a team, giving each piece careful attention. To get a sense of what they are looking for, you can read past issues online.

The journal is published four times a year, in March, June, September, and December. They accept submissions year-round, and right now they’re seeking submissions for their fifth issue. They aim to respond to submissions within six weeks, and authors who don’t hear back within six weeks are welcome to query.

Twice a year, in January and July, Cold Creek Review publishes a special themed edition called The Shallows. Right now, they’re seeking writing for the third edition of The Shallows prompted by “moments when getting something you desperately wanted caused massive regret.” Each piece in The Shallows is published alongside an author interview.

For either Cold Creek Review or The Shallows, poets may submit three to five poems. Authors of fiction and nonfiction may submit one piece, 4,000 words or fewer. All submissions should include a third person bio and author photo.

They do not accept work depicting racism, violence, or eroticism. After a declined submission, authors should wait at least four months before submitting again.

Cold Creek Review accepts submissions via email, but not online or by post. They accept simultaneous submissions, but ask that authors immediately withdraw work published elsewhere. They do not accept previously published work.

While they do not pay authors, they do promote work published in their journal by nominating authors for anthologies and awards such as the Pushcart Prize and Best of the Net anthology.
