Dead Fern Press: Now Seeking Submissions

A brand-new online journal based in Michigan, Dead Fern Press is seeking poetry, flash fiction, and creative nonfiction. Their artistically designed webspace, featuring naturalistic line art, hints at an edgy aesthetic. You can read the journal online to get a sense of what they publish.

Dead Fern Press holds three open submission periods each year: from January through March, May through July, and September through November. They publish new writing twice a week, on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Right now, their website features the work of over 30 contributors. They’ve published more flash fiction than anything else.

Authors of flash fiction and creative nonfiction may submit writing up to 3,000 words. Poets may submit up to five poems. Dead Fern Press aims to publish a wide variety of writing; however, they avoid publishing anything cliché. Submitting authors can expect a response within about two months. Authors should only submit to one category at a time.

Dead Fern Press also accepts artwork, including comics. They feature one artist each month. Although there’s no theme for art submissions, artists should consider the aesthetic of Dead Fern Press when submitting. Artists may submit up to three works.

Dead Fern Press accepts submissions via email, not through an online submission manager or by post. They accept simultaneous submissions but ask that authors withdraw work published elsewhere. They do not accept previously published work.

Dead Fern Press only accepts submissions that adhere to the guidelines they’ve posted online. Please read these guidelines in full before submitting.

If you would like to learn more or submit to Dead Fern Press, please visit their website here.
