Double Dagger Books: Now Accepting Manuscript Queries

Updates July 31st, 2024: They are overtly redirecting submitters via email from their traditional publishing arm, to their new hybrid/vanity imprint. We do not recommend working with a vanity publisher or a hybrid publisher. We also feel that redirecting submissions to a paid-for-publishing opportunities crosses a clear ethical boundary.

Double Dagger Books is a small press based in Toronto. They only publish military and security-focused fiction and nonfiction works. While based in Canada, they are happy to publish international authors and are open to international submissions.

They publish books with genre-appropriate covers. They appear to be reasonably active on their blog and social media. I’m not sure who their distributor is.

Currently they are seeking work that falls into one of the following categories:

  • military fiction (Think everything from Robert Heinlein to Bernard Cornwell)
  • military biographies or memoirs
  • military and national security-related history
  • books on military theory and tactics, modern or historical
  • battlefield guides
  • Military-themed graphic novels
  • guides or references for collectors of militaria, modellers, wargamers and reenactors

You can get a feel for what they have previously published by visiting their catalog here.

They do not consider manuscripts that are over 100,000 words. They are also not interested in previously self-published work without substantial changes that would encourage a reader to buy a new edition.

They ask that interested authors send a query letter and sample chapters in the body of an email.

53 Magazines Seeking Genre Fiction

53 Magazines Seeking Genre Fiction

Most literary journals are interested in literary work, by which they mean, not genre work (although this is changing a little). The definition of genre is a category of artistic composition, as in music or literature, characterized by similarities in form, style, or subject matter. However, in the context of writing, genre can refer to…
