Emerge Literary Journal: Now Seeking Submissions

Emerge is a literary journal completely dedicated to publishing emerging authors: “Whether you’re a new writer, a writer new to publishing, or a writer with experience experimenting with their style of work, we dedicate ourselves to you.” They publish free-verse poetry and flash prose in a broad range of voices.

Launched in 2011, Emerge Literary Journal has been publishing for over ten years. Each issue is available online and contains writing from around 25 contributors. They’ve published 25 issues so far.

Emerge Literary Journal accepts submissions on a rolling basis. Poets may submit up to six poems, and no fewer than three. Authors of flash prose may submit up to three pieces of fiction or creative nonfiction, 750 words or fewer each. Emerge accepts all genres except horror and erotica, as long as the writing is literary in style.

Each issue of Emerge also contains a section called “Esperanza Corner,” dedicated to sharing writing about mental illness and trauma. Authors submitting to Esperanza Corner can follow the guidelines for each genre listed above.

All authors published in Emerge Literary Journal receive a $10 honorarium.

Emerge Literary Journal accepts submissions online using Submittable, not via email or by post. They accept simultaneous submissions but ask that authors withdraw work published elsewhere. They do not accept multiple submissions, and they ask that authors wait for a response before submitting again.

Emerge Literary Journal only accepts submissions that follow the guidelines they’ve posted online. Please read these guidelines in full before submitting.
