Fahmidan: Now Seeking Submissions

Fahmidan is an online quarterly of fiction, nonfiction, and poetry. They aim to publish a wide range of voices from around the world, and to inspire a wide range of emotions in their readers: “Send us your thought provoking existentialism, your phobias, your darkest moments. Entrance us with your whimsical fantasy. Move us to tears with your truth in a world of suffering. Captivate and intrigue us with your hopes and dreams.” You can get a sense of what they publish by reading the journal online.

Fahmidan was founded in 2020, and since then they’ve published four online editions each year. Each issue features writing from around 20 contributors.

Fahmidan is open to submissions year-round. Here’s their reading schedule: From September 15 through December 15 they read for their spring issue, published March 10. From December 16 through March 15 they read for their summer issue, published June 10. From March 16 through June 15 they read for their autumn issue, published September 10. And from June 16 through September 14 they read for their Winter issue, published December 10.

Poets may submit up to three poems, three pages or fewer each. Authors of prose (fiction or nonfiction) may submit one piece, 1,000 to 2,500 words, or up to two flashes, 800 words or fewer each. Authors may send one submission per category at a time, and should wait for a response before submitting again.

Submitting authors can expect a response within 25 days. Authors published in Fahmidan receive $25 per piece.

Fahmidan also publishes print and digital chapbooks by POC and women-identifying authors. They open for chapbook submissions twice a year, in February for digital publication, and in November for print publication. Poets may submit chapbooks of 30 pages or fewer, and authors of fiction (short fiction or flash) may submit up to 7,500 words. Authors receive 30% royalties for sales.

Fahmidan accepts submissions online using Submittable, not via email or by post. They accept simultaneous submissions but ask that authors withdraw writing published elsewhere. They do not accept previously published work.

Fahmidan only accepts submissions that follow the guidelines they’ve posted online. Please read these guidelines in full before submitting. Also, Fahmidan only accepts writing from authors over 18.
