Five on the Fifth: Now Seeking Submissions

Five on the Fifth is a monthly online journal that publishes five short pieces of writing—horror, fantasy, science fiction, general fiction, flash fiction, and nonfiction—on the fifth of every month. They aim to help emerging authors get their voices heard by maintaining a frequent publication schedule and responding quickly to submissions. Their journal reaches a broad, mainstream audience. You can a sense of what they publish by reading the journal online.

Five on the Fifth has been published each month since 2015. They accept submissions year-round, and since they receive hundreds of submissions each month publication is competitive. They respond to all submissions within a month, but they usually reply much sooner.

Authors may submit one piece of fiction, flash fiction, nonfiction, science fiction, fantasy writing, or horror writing, 5,000 words or fewer. Five on the Fifth does not accept novels, poetry, fan fiction, experimental writing, or erotica. Authors should wait five months before sending more work after Five on the Fifth declines a submission.

Five on the Fifth accepts submissions online, not via email or by post. They accept simultaneous submissions but ask that authors immediately withdraw work published elsewhere. They do not accept previously published work.
