Flash Frog: Now Seeking Submissions

Flash Frog is an online journal of flash fiction under 1,000 words: “We like our stories like we like our dart frogs: small, brightly colored, and deadly to the touch.” Stories published in Flash Frog have gone on to be featured in anthologies like Best Microfiction, Wigleaf Top 50, Best Small Fictions, and Best of the Net. They also nominate for The Pushcart Prize.

Flash Frog was founded in 2021, and all of the flashes they’ve published are available to read in their online archives. They publish a new story every Monday, and they pay $25 per flash. Each flash is accompanied by an original piece of artwork.

Flash Frog also holds an annual flash fiction contest called The Blue Frog, with a new theme, guest judge, and guest artist each year. They award a total of $700 in prizes.

In October, they host Flash Frogtober, during which they only publish ghost stories.

Flash Frog accepts submissions year-round, but in July they only accept ghost stories, and in January they only accept contest submissions.

Authors of flash fiction may submit one story at a time, up to 1,000 words. They do not accept creative nonfiction or poetry. Submitting authors can expect a response within one week, though sometimes the response time might be longer.

Flash Frog accepts submissions via email, not online or by post. They accept simultaneous submissions but ask that authors withdraw writing published elsewhere. They do not accept previously published work, included writing published on blogs or social media.

Flash Frog only accepts submissions that follow the guidelines they’ve posted online. Please read these guidelines in full before submitting.
