formercactus: Now Seeking Submissions

A new online magazine of prose poetry and flash fiction, formercactus is currently seeking submissions for a special edition featuring only microfiction. They are looking for tiny tales that coax us to step from this world into another, invite us to change, and reveal to us the infinite within the infinitesimal. They are looking for weirdos, unexpected connections, and experiments. They accept work on any subject, and you can get a sense of their style by reading past issues online.

Right now through January 15, formercactus is seeking submissions of microfiction for their fourth issue, MicroCaxtus. Authors of microfiction may submit up to four pieces, 200 words or fewer each. formercactus plans to publish the thirty best tiny tales they receive.

formercactus also accepts submissions on an ongoing basis for their monthly magazine. Poets may submit up to four prose poems, 500 words or fewer each. Authors of flash fiction may submit up to two stories, 1,000 words or fewer each. They accept stories in any genre, but they especially like surrealism, magical realism, and transgressive writing.

Though formercactus does not require cover letters, they like them. They also like international and diverse submissions. They usually respond within a week or sooner, and authors who don’t hear back within a week can query.

formercactus accepts submissions via email, but not online or by post. They do not accept previously published work. They do not pay authors right now; however, they promote the work they publish and nominate authors for awards.

If you would like to learn more or submit to formercactus, please visit their website.
