Game Over Books: Accepting Manuscript Submissions

A small press based out of Boston, Game Over Books was founded in 2017 and has funded their small press through a mix of Kickstarter fundraising, Patreon, and book sales. Their staff page is here, if you want to learn more about their team.

Their covers are generally excellent, and all of the books they’ve published that I’ve read are terrific.

This is what they have to say about the type of books they publish “Game Over Books is looking to publish work that is entertaining and thought-provoking, cheery, dark, or otherwise. The type of work that makes you say “oh shit!” and you have to pause and look around to make sure no one actually heard you say that out loud.” You can get a feel for the books they’ve published in the past by going here.

I do really like that they’re transparent about contracts, and share a sample one here.

They are very active at promoting books through social media and regularly attend book fairs and writer conferences. They are now distributed by ASTERISM.

In 2025 they are hosting their 10th open reading periods for the entire month of May, closing to submissions on May 31st.

Please read and follow their detailed guidelines here. You can get a good feel for what they’ve published in the past here.

53 Literary Journals Seeking Genre Fiction

53 Literary Journals Seeking Genre Fiction

Most literary journals are interested in literary work, by which they mean, not genre work (although this is changing a little). The definition of genre is a category of artistic composition, as in music or literature, characterized by similarities in form, style, or subject matter.
