Inglenook is an online magazine of magical writing, and writing about magic: “Come ye witches, lovers of magic and magick, mystics and seekers of enchantment: gather by our fire and send us your best speculative prose.” They publish both fiction and creative nonfiction, and they especially love writing that explores the space between fantasy and reality.
Inglenook also aims to be a resource for reading about magic and speculative fiction. On their blog, they publish articles such as “Are Fairies Real? The Best Books About Fairies 2025,” “The Best Books About the Magic of Nature,” and “The Best Speculative Fiction – 2025.”
Their literary magazine, published separately from their blog, features fiction and nonfiction released on a rolling basis. They launched in February, and so far they’ve published four pieces.
Inglenook is always open for submissions, and authors of fiction and creative nonfiction may submit one piece, 250 to 3,500 words. Authors of creative nonfiction may submit memoires, essays, and flashes. Authors of fiction may submit speculative fiction and magical realism, but not high fantasy. Submitting authors can expect a response within about two months.
The editors of Inglenook have included examples of writing they love in the submission guidelines. It’s a good idea to read these examples before submitting.
Inglenook accepts submissions using an online form, not via email or by post. They accept simultaneous submissions, but they do not usually accept previously published writing. They will occasionally consider reprints, but this is rare. They do not publish writing produced by AI.
Inglenook only accepts submissions that follow the guidelines they’ve posted online. Please read these guidelines in full before submitting.
