The Authors Publish Fund for Literary Journals

Since the Coronovirus pandemic started, a lot of literary journals have been under more stress than ever. Academic journals lost organizers and funding, and a number of wonderful journals went under, for financial reasons, or logistical restraints.

Many journals switched over to charging fees for submissions and the ones that remained fee-free were slammed with submissions. Many journals saw their submissions increase three-fold.

Authors Publish believes that literary journals and their staff should be supported as much as possible and we’ve donated to a number of fund-raisers during this time, but we feel that this method often means we are missing out on supporting smaller, more vulnerable journals that might not have the Kickstarter or a donation button.

So we’ve started this fund. Every month we will give $150 (US dollars) to a journal that has applied to the fund. You can apply to the fund here if you run/are on staff of a literary journal. We ask that you not apply on behalf of other literary journals because they might not need the funding/have a way of accepting it.

Once a journal has been entered in the system, they will remain in there till they are selected for funding, or they chose to leave the system.

The selections will be made by lottery, but the journals have to meet two requirements.

The first is that they are still active, and they must have published at least one issue in the last six months.

The second, is that while they can charge for some submissions they cannot charge for all submissions. There must be a free electronic way to submit. This is very important to us.

Please only apply for the fund if your journal needs the funding.

The first recipient of the fund will be announced on September 30th, 2020.

If you have any additional questions, please send an email to support@authorspublish.com.
