Kansas City Voices: Now Seeking Submissions

UPDATED Feb 6th 2020: An author who has worked with them in the past, warns that they are behind in terms of publication schedule, and ask contributors for money continually. This is just a report from one author, but if we here from anyone else, we will update this.

Launched in 1994, Kansas City Voices is an established print journal published by Whispering Prairie Press. They print a wide variety of fiction, poetry, essays, interviews, articles, and art by both emerging and established authors from around the world. You can get a sense of what they publish by reading selections from their print journal online.

Kansas City Voices accepts submissions during a yearly reading period from December 15th through March 15th. The journal is published annually in the fall.

Poets may submit up to 35 lines of poetry. Authors of prose may submit up to 2,500 words. Authors do not need to write about Kansas City or the Midwest. Since the editors of Kansas City Voices rotate, they do not adhere to a specific aesthetic. They accept all forms and styles of poetry and prose. Each submitted work should stand on its own, even if it is part of a larger piece.

Kansas City Voices reads submissions blind, so authors should take care to remove any identifying information from submissions. Authors are welcome to submit in multiple categories.

Authors published in Kansas City Voices receive a small payment as well as one contributor copy of the journal.

Kansas City Voices accepts submissions online, not via email or by post. They accept simultaneous submissions but ask that authors withdraw work published elsewhere. They do not accept previously published work.

If you would like to learn more or submit to Kansas City Voices, please visit their website here.
