In this lecture, Alexandra will give you a plan-of-action that leads you to a finished manuscript ready for submission to publishers and agents.

You will learn how to break down your first draft, one element at a time, in order to flesh out your story and get to its core (which in turn will help you get to the end). You will also learn Alexandra’s process for exercising discipline in your writing life, drawing inspiration from routines of successfully published authors.

Alexandra Leggat is an author, freelance editor, journalist, writing coach, and teaches creative writing for the University of Toronto School of Continuing Studies Creative Writing program. Her books include a collection of poetry and three short story collections and a novel. One of her books of short stories entitled Animal was short listed for the Trillium Book Award along side Margaret Atwood and Alice Munro. She is currently completing a novel entitled We Are Not The Fischers.

Through the Stairwell – A Collection of Truth and Tale is forthcoming in 2025.  She lives in the country with her Siberian husky and her beautiful Thoroughbred named Finn.
