Ley Lines is an online journal of poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction. Named after the theory that suggests there are lines of energy connecting within the earth, Ley Lines aims to publish writing that connects “lit & life:” “we see literature as integrally connected to the broad conversations that characterize our contemporary lives.” They’re looking for meaningful pieces that “illuminate the human condition.” You can read the journal online to get a sense of what they publish.
Ley Lines is published annually each spring, in March or April. Launched in 2025, they’ve published two online issues so far. The first issues features writing by 12 contributors, while the second issue features writing by 18 contributors. The journal also includes artwork and photography.
Ley Lines is open to submissions once each year during their reading period. Right now they are open from September 1 through December 31. Poets may submit up to four poems. Authors of fiction and nonfiction may submit one piece. Although they don’t have a word or line limit for any genre, they prefer prose that is 5,000 words or fewer, and poetry that is 80 lines or fewer. Submitting authors can expect a response within three months.
Ley Lines accepts submissions via email, not online or by post. They accept simultaneous submissions but ask that authors withdraw writing published elsewhere. They do not accept previously published writing, and they do not accept writing generated or assisted by AI.

Bio: Ella Peary is the pen name of an internationally published author and editor. After earning a Master of Fine Arts degree in poetry from Sarah Lawrence College, she lived as a monastic for five years. She now lives as a lay monastic, and teaches poetry, flash fiction, and literary publishing at the Authors Publish Writers Workshop. Her writing has been published in Room, The Apple Valley Review, Fourteen Hills, and elsewhere. And a number of full-length manuscripts she’s edited have received major international awards, including The Best Graphic Novel of the Year (Comics Finlandia), The Montaigne Medal, and The National Indie Excellence Awards. She’s also a long-time literary journal reviewer and editor at Authors Publish Magazine.
