Library Tales Publishing was founded in 2011. They describe themselves as “a distinguished independent publishing house, renowned for publishing, marketing, and distributing a wide spectrum of books, spanning self-help, memoirs, and niche fiction, penned by skilled and creative authors.”
I have not encountered their books in stores personally, and it is clear based on feedback at the Water Cooler, that you can read here, that they have not always done the best job in terms of publishing. However the limited reports there are all older and second hand. It’s harder to take second hand reports as seriously, and I have not seen any more recent reports.
Their website focuses on selling books rather than recruiting authors, which is a good sign. As is the fact they recently entered into a partnership with Ulysses Press. Another potentially good sign is that they are now distributed by Simon & Schuster. They made a big deal of this on their blog initially, but it’s not part of their FAQ. You can see their books here, on S&S’s website.
Another good sign is that even though they publish a really wide range of books, compared to most smaller publishers, most have a fair amount (over 20 and under 100) of reviews and/or ratings on Amazon, so they seem to actually be selling books, which is important.
Since I initially wrote this review they added a 1-800 number to their website, to call them, which I do not love. Most traditional publishers do not have them because they are expensive and time consuming.
Below are the current genres and categories of work they are seeking according to their website:
“Self-Help Books: Self-help books are our specialty. We are passionate about publishing works that empower and inspire readers to improve their lives, develop new skills, and achieve personal growth and well-being.
Drawing Books: We are interested in manuscripts that teach and inspire the art of drawing. Whether it’s instructional guides, sketching techniques, or books that encourage artistic creativity, we welcome submissions in this category.
Nonfiction Titles: We seek compelling nonfiction works that cover a wide range of topics, from history and science to psychology and business. If your manuscript offers valuable insights, knowledge, or explores intriguing subjects, we want to hear from you.
Enthralling Memoirs: Personal stories that captivate, inspire, and offer unique perspectives on life are of great interest to us. If you have a memoir that resonates with readers and leaves a lasting impact, we encourage you to submit it for consideration.
Fiction Books: We are open to fiction submissions that feature engaging storylines and well-developed characters. Whether your work falls within the realms of contemporary fiction, mystery, romance, or other genres, we are eager to explore compelling narratives.”
They do not accept previously published work.
They have a marketing focused form for submissions that involves additional work beyond the normal querying package. Please carefully review their submission guidelines before proceeding. To learn more, go here.
