Many Nice Donkeys: Now Seeking Submissions

Many Nice Donkeys is an online journal of flash prose (fiction and nonfiction), poetry, and hybrid writing. They like writing that’s both authentic and unexpected: “We want to publish work that’s deeply honest, but could, at any moment, bite your hand.” You can read the journal online to get a sense of what they publish.

Many Nice Donkeys was established in 2022, and since then they’ve published seven issues. Each issue features writing from around a dozen contributors, and is available for free as a digital download. The journal is minimalistic and attractively designed.

Many Nice Donkeys is only open during select submission windows throughout the year. Right now, they’re open through March 17.

Authors of flash prose (fiction or creative nonfiction) may submit any number of pieces, totaling 1,000 words or fewer. Many Nice Donkeys also accepts hybrid writing.

Poets may submit up to five poems, totaling eight pages or fewer. They do not often publish rhyming poems.

In general, Many Nice Donkey’s likes thoughtfully crafted, surprising writing: “We welcome the literary, the weird, the disobedient, and the avant-garde.”

Authors may submit writing in more than one genre category, but should wait for a response in that category before submitting again. Many Nice Donkeys reads submissions without looking at identifying information, so authors should take care to remove identifying information from submissions. Submitting authors can expect a response within ten weeks.

Many Nice Donkeys accepts submissions using an online form, not via email or by post. They accept simultaneous submissions but ask that authors withdraw writing published elsewhere. They do not accept previously published writing, including self-published writing or writing published on personal blogs or websites. They also prefer to avoid writing that is already scheduled to be published in a chapbook or collection, even if it would appear in Many Nice Donkeys first.

Many Nice Donkeys only accepts submissions that follow the guidelines they’ve posted online. Please read these guidelines in full before submitting. Many Nice Donkeys does not accept writing generated by AI.
