MARY: Now Seeking Submissions

MARY: A Journal of New Writing, is a thoughtfully designed online journal sponsored by the MFA in creative writing program at Saint Mary’s College of California. MARY is buzzing with daring, strange fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and hybrid writing from both new and established authors. They’ve published work by D.A. Powell, Dorathea Lasky, Peter Orner, Bruce Smith, Rebecca Curtis, K. Silem Mohammad, Matthew Zapruder, Gillian Conoley, Elizabeth Robinson, and Carol Snow, among other contemporary cornerstones, and they’ve interviewed well-known authors such as Nick Flynn, Jo Ann Beard, Forrest Gander, Michael Palmer, Susan Steinberg, Michael Pollan, John D’Agata, and Kent Johnson.

You can get a sense of their style by reading their beautifully crafted journal online. It’s aesthetically intelligent and easy to navigate.

Since 2002, MARY has been publishing two editions a year online. Right now, they’re open to submissions through April 15. MARY pays all contributors $30 for their work.

Poets may submit up to five poems. Authors of fiction and nonfiction may submit up to fifteen pages of writing. MARY also accepts hybrid forms. All submissions should include a bio, 50 words or fewer.

MARY accepts submissions online, not via email or by post. They accept simultaneous submissions but ask that authors withdraw work published elsewhere. They do not accept previously published work.

If you would like to learn more or submit to MARY, please visit their website here.
