Meetinghouse: Now Seeking Submissions

Meetinghouse is a print journal (with some content occasionally published online) produced by undergraduate students at Dartmouth College. They showcase a broad range of writing: “We welcome all forms of writing, both creative and critical.” This includes poetry, fiction, and nonfiction as well as “genre-bending & genre-blending” work (which they especially love). You can get a sense of what they publish by reading the online selections.

Established in 2020, Meetinghouse has published four print issues so far, each featuring work from around twenty contributors. The print journal is well-designed, and the online features are also presented in a thoughtful way.

Now through December 3, Meetinghouse is seeking submissions for their fifth issue. Authors of prose may submit up to two pieces, and poets may submit up to five poems. All submissions should be 7,500 words or fewer.

Meetinghouse also accepts translations, as well as a wide range of creative nonfiction by authors in various disciplines: “We feature literary nonfiction written by scientists, philosophers, natural historians, historians, journalists, literary critics, and others, finding connections where at first none seem to exist.”

Meetinghouse pays authors published in the journal: $100 for prose and $50 for each poem published in the print journal, and $40 for content published online.

Meetinghouse only accepts submissions online using Submittable, not via email or by post. They accept simultaneous submissions but ask that authors inform the editors about work published elsewhere. They very rarely accept previously published work.

Meetinghouse only accepts submissions that follow the guidelines they’ve posted online. Please read these guidelines in full before submitting.

If you would like to learn more or submit to Meetinghouse, please visit their website here.
