Moria: Now Seeking Submissions

Moria is an online literary magazine produced by an all-student editorial team at Woodbury University in Los Angeles. Artfully conceived and beautifully designed, this new publication is drawing authors and readers from across the globe. They publish both emerging and established writers, and they’re interested in a wide variety of styles and themes. To get a sense of what they like, you can read past issues online.

Moria makes a strong effort to publish thought-provoking writing by underrepresented authors. 71% of the authors they’ve published identify as women, 22% identify as people of color, and 10% identify as LGBTQ. They also publish writing by authors of all ages. So far they’ve published work from authors age 15 to age 95.

Right now through October 1, Moria is seeking submissions for their fourth issue. They publish two editions a year, in the spring and fall, and each issue contains work from around forty authors.

Poets may submit up to five poems. Authors of fiction or creative nonfiction may submit one piece, 1,500 words or fewer. Moria accepts experimental and hybrid forms, as well as conventional work.

Moria nominates authors published in the magazine for various awards, including the Pushcart Prize, Best of the Net, and Best New Poets.

Moria accepts submissions online, not via email or by post. They accept simultaneous submissions but ask that authors withdraw work published elsewhere. They do not accept previously published work.
