Neon Magazine is an online and print magazine based in the UK, publishing imaginative, stylized poetry and fiction. They maintain a strong experimental aesthetic, with a love of dark, post-modernist topics such as apocalypse, isolation, dislocation, apathy, technology, urban decay, and Kirk Cameron.
They like work that is both shocking and beautiful, memorable and new. They prefer poetry that’s stark and fiction that’s strange. They welcome genre work, like fantasy and science fiction, but shy away from poetry that rhymes. They’ll consider anything, but they suggest that submitting writers read past issues online to acquire a taste for Neon’s unique flavor.
Neon publishes three editions a year, each with work from about ten writers. They accept submissions year-round. Submitting writers can expect a response within about two weeks.
Poets may submit three to seven poems. Fiction writers may submit one short story or two to three pieces of flash fiction. All submissions should include a cover letter and a 50 word biography.
Neon accepts submissions via email, but not by post or through an online submissions manager. They accept previously published work and simultaneous submissions, but ask that submitting writers let them know if their work is published elsewhere. Writers published in Neon receive a royalty payment derived from print sales.
