Newfound is a nonprofit online journal examining the effects of environment on identity and thought. They reach a broad audience, and they publish a wide variety of forms and styles, from experimental to literary. The best way to get a sense of their style is by reading the journal online.
Newfound is published twice a year online. They also publish poetry and prose chapbooks through the Anzaldua Poetry Prize, Emerging Poet Submissions, and the Newfound Prose Prize.
Newfound accepts submissions from August 15 through May 15 each year. They accept reviews and translations year-round. Right now through December 21, they are seeking submissions for their “Virtual Realities” themed edition. Submitting authors can expect a response within three months and are welcome to query after six months.
Poets may submit up to six poems, totaling ten pages or fewer. Authors of fiction may submit work of any length. Authors of flash, micro, and hybrid work may submit up to three pieces, 1,000 words or fewer each. Authors of nonfiction may submit one piece, 40 pages or fewer. Newfound also accepts reviews, translations, and visual art.
Authors published in Newfound receive a $25 honorarium. Newfound nominates six authors each year for the Pushcart Prize, and they nominate two poets each year for the Best New Poets anthology.
Newfound accepts submissions online, not via email or by post. They accept simultaneous submissions but ask that authors withdraw work published elsewhere. They do not accept previously published work.
