Pitch Publishing: Accepting Book Proposals

Pitch Publishing is a UK-based publisher of nonfiction books about sports. They have a large catalog that covers football, cricket, rugby, boxing, golf, athletics and other sports. Many of the books they’ve published have won or been longlisted for awards. They have excellent distribution in the UK through MacMillan.

They don’t have any guidelines stating that they are not open to non- UK authors, but if you are submitting a proposal for a book on a sport that is very different in the US than the UK (for example), and you are writing from an American perspective, they are probably not the right fit. To get a feel for what they have already published, go here.

Your submission must include proposed title and subtitle, a no more than 300 word description, a brief overview of the structure of the book. If the book is not written, you must include an accurate timeline for when it will be completed including a projected word count. If the manuscript is completed, disclose that and share the level of edits its received. If a professional editor is involved, include their name also.

They also ask that authors share the types of images they plan to include and details of other previously published work. They have additional tips and details on their info page in the submissions section

If you wish to propose a future Pitch Publishing title, then the following guidelines will help you prepare your submission.

Work is usually published at least a year after the contract is signed, and usually more, so that they can prepare a marketing plan. Completed and time-sensitive manuscripts may have different schedules.

They review submissions on a quarterly basis.

They share their house style guidelines here.
