Poetry East: Now Seeking Poetry Submissions

Established in 1979, Poetry East is a respected print journal affiliated with DePaul University and helmed in Chicago. They publish accessible poetry, translations, interviews, and criticism with universal appeal and page-turning immediacy.

Poetry East has been edited by well-known poet Richard Jones from its first issue published almost 40 years ago. The journal has received many accolades and has been ranked among the top literary journals in the United States. Choice called it “one of the best current journals of poetry.” You can get a sense of what they publish by reading sample poems here.

Right now, Poetry East is accepting submissions for their Fall 2019 issue, which will be the 95th edition of the journal. They only accept submissions by post, not via email or online. Submitting poets can expect a response within about four months.

Poets may submit manuscripts of any length. Authors may also submit translations, interviews, and criticism. Poetry East does not accept previously published work.

All submissions should be mailed in #10 envelopes and should include contact information. Only manuscripts accompanied by self-addressed stamped envelopes will be returned.

If you would like to learn more or submit to Poetry East, please visit their website here.
