Potato Soup Journal: Now Seeking Submissions

Updated 2023: Permanently closed to submissions.

Potato Soup is a new online literary journal of fiction, flash fiction, ten-word stories, creative essays, memoirs, and stories by prompts. The name of their journal is inspired by the creative flow required to turn bland potatoes into delicious potato soup. Humans tell stories, and humans hear stories. Somewhere in this exchange, ordinary life is cooked into meaning. Through art, everyday experiences take shape to nourish and sustain us.

Potato Soup Journal has been published monthly online since December 2018. They accept submissions year-round, and they publish around 70% of the work they receive. They publish both new and established authors.

Authors of fiction may submit one story, 3,500 words or fewer. Potato Soup Journal also accepts flash fiction up to 1,000 words and ten-word stories, exactly ten words. Authors of creative nonfiction may submit essays or memoirs, 2,000 words or fewer. All submissions should include a brief, third-person bio. Submitting authors can expect a response within two to four weeks.

Potato Soup Journal accepts submission via email, not online or by post. They accept simultaneous submissions but ask that authors withdraw work published elsewhere. They do not accept previously published work. Authors should only submit once per category each annual quarter.
