Scavengers: Now Seeking Submissions

Scavengers is a journal of hybrid, experimental, cross-genre, mixed-media, fragmentary and flash writing. Produced by Querencia Press (a publisher that aims to “amplify overlooked voices”), Scavengers is looking for writing that’s difficult to classify or publish elsewhere: “Give us the weird art you think no one will love, the almost stories, the things you don’t know what to do with but can’t bear to toss in the trash.” They’re open to invented forms and genres, and they love collage.

Scavengers was established in 2023, and since then they’ve published two issues, each with writing from around 75 contributors. The issues are available in print and as paid digital downloads.

Samples from each issue are also available online for free. It’s a good idea to read these samples before submitting to get a sense of what they publish. The samples include collages, erasures, and other experimental forms. They also showcase each piece on Instagram after publication.

Now through May 31, Scavengers is seeking submissions for their third issue. Authors may submit up to three pieces, 1,000 words or fewer each. They accept all types of poetry, prose, and visual artwork, including comics and collages, as well as cross-genre and mixed-media forms: “We don’t define these things, instead we want you to show us what these words mean to you.” They’re especially interested in hybrid, experimental, and fragmentary work.

Scavengers also accepts chapbook reviews and interviews, 1,000 words or fewer.

Scavengers accepts submissions online using Submittable, not via email or by post. Authors may submit only once per issue.

Scavengers only accepts submissions that follow the guidelines they’ve posted online. Please read these guidelines in full before submitting.
