Scum: Now Seeking Submissions

An established online literary journal with “filthy feminist leanings,” Scum is seeking poetry, fiction, nonfiction, rants, memoirs, and whatever else you want to send. Since 2013, they’ve published new writing year-round a couple times a week, and they don’t care what anyone thinks about it. They publish writing of all varieties, and the best way to get a sense of their style is by reading the magazine online.

Scum accepts feminist-friendly submissions the first week of every month, from the 1st through the 7th. They’re closed to submissions the rest of the month. They do their best to respond to submissions as quickly as possible.

So they are closed today, but they will open up to submissions for a week starting tomorrow. Because Authors Publish goes out on Thursdays the timing was tricky. But we decided that most people would prefer to find out the day before they open to submissions rather than the day before they close to them.

Poets may submit up to three poems, 50 lines or fewer. Authors of prose may submit one piece, 1,000 words or fewer. Prose submissions should fit into the categories: “fiction,” “culture,” “memoir,” and “review.” Note: they don’t usually publish traditional reviews of books and films. Scum accepts submissions via email, not online or by post.

Scum pays $60AUD for each piece of writing they publish.

If you would like to learn more or submit to Scum, please visit their website here.
