Shepheard-Walwyn: Accepting Proposals

Shepheard-Walwyn is a UK based nonfiction publisher. They were founded in 1971. The areas they most interested in are: Ethical Economics, Politics, Society and Social Change, Science, Philosophy, Psychology, Art History, Literary Criticism, Environmental issues, Self-Help, Personal Development, Autobiography, and Literary Memoirs. You can get a feel for what they have published in the past here.

Their website is pretty well organized but I found the catalog to be rather frustrating. Many of the books on the landing page of the catalog are older and out of stock. In order to see recent books, which are mostly in stock, you need to adjust the filters, which give you a much better understanding of what they are focused on publishing now.

They do not have an About Us page on the website, but like most UK- based presses, they do have a business registration page which you can see here. I cannot stress enough that I am not an expert at analyzing this page, but I did find it interesting. Based on the information there, they seem to have less than ten employees, but that is certainly more than some other small presses.

They do overtly encourage submitters to build a “moderate social media following” so that is something to take into consideration. You can read their notes of guidance along with their submission guidelines here. They share additional information as well as a form for potential authors to complete on that page. All submissions must be made via email.
