Statement: Now Seeking Submissions

Statement is a well-established, award-winning literary journal. For 70 years they’ve published poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, scripts, graphic novels, translations, and hybrid writing in an attractive print annual.

Helmed at California State University’s Los Angeles campus, Statement is edited by students studying creative writing. The journal features writing by prominent authors alongside writing by unknown talent.

Right now through February 12, statement is accepting submissions for their 2021 edition. The theme is “Unity.”

Authors of literary work in any genre may submit up to four pieces, 2,000 words or fewer each. In addition to poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction, Statement accepts hybrid writing, translations, screenplays, stage plays, and other literary work that doesn’t fit within these categories. In other words, they’re open to a wide variety of forms and styles. Authors may submit excerpts of longer work or full pieces of writing.

Statement reads submissions blind, making it easier for brand new authors to get published on its pages.

They accept submissions via email, not online or by post. Statement accepts simultaneous submissions but asks that authors withdraw work published elsewhere.

Statement will not consider work that does not follow these submission guidelines. Please read their guidelines in full before submitting.

If you would like to learn more or submit to Statement, please visit their website here.
