streetcake: Accepting Submissions

streetcake is a UK-based literary journal that is focused on publishing experimental writing. They do not have a stated deadline but they are currently reading for their August issue. They were founded in 2022.

Please note that they do seem to use multiple approaches to their title. It is called STREET CAKE and street cake at other points on the website as well as streetcake.  This is in line with their experimental approach but in the context of this review I stuck to one presentation of the name.

They do not accept AI-generated work. They only publish work that is experimental. To get a feel for what they have published in the past, go here.

They ask that all submissions be addressed to trini decombe and nikki dudley.

They ask for emailed submissions with the subject line “submissions” followed by a short bio about yourself (4-5 lines in the body of the email. They prefer word documents, but if that impacts formatting PDF is fine. If sending a PDF they ask for the poems or stories to be on separate pages, without headers or footers.

They want most of the work to be 12 point font or bigger, in a readable font. They do say “some of your work can be smaller and unreadable for visual effect.”

If your work is rejected, don’t submit again during the same reading period.

Please read their submission guidelines carefully with special attention to the end of the page where they share a sample of what interests them, as well as additional information on what they like. As always, do not submit if what they are looking for doesn’t sound at all like your own work. They have put a lot of effort into making it very clear what they like.
