The Clearing: Now Seeking Submissions

The Clearing is an established online journal published by Little Toller Books, a well-loved independent press committed to reviving old nature classics and books about rural living in the British Isles. They’ve received numerous accolades, and The Independent calls them “a small but discerning press.”

The Clearing is an online space for authors and artists to creatively conceptualize the landscapes they inhabit. They welcome surprising, distinctive takes on a broad world of places: rural and urban, modern and prehistoric, fantastical and natural. To get a sense of what they publish, you can read The Clearing online.

The Clearing publishes new writing often, at least three times a month. They are always open to submissions.

They are seeking work in all written, audio, and visual genres, and they frequently publish poems, essays, diaries, interviews, films, podcasts, photographs, and artwork. The Clearing accepts writing, as well as creative audio and video, of any length.

All submissions should engage with the natural environment, but they welcome a broad range of approaches to that theme. Submissions should also be feelingly written and meaningful.

The Clearing accepts submissions via email, not using an online submissions manager or by post. They do not accept simultaneous submissions, so authors submitting to The Clearing should refrain from sending the same work elsewhere. They do not accept previously published work.

If you would like to learn more or submit to The Clearing, please visit their website here

Their submission guidelines and email address are on the right-hand side. You have to scroll down to see them.
